

Reay Golf Club Elects New Council - 23 February 2007

At the AGM on Monday night Ian Ross was elected as the new Club Captain for the 2007-2008 season and was presented with the Captains tie by Graeme Dunnett the retiring Captain. Ian has served on the Council as Treasurer and was Vice Captain to Graeme Dunnett and is well prepared to take up the reins. Jock Eunson continues as Hon.Treasurer and Graeme Dunnett after five years at the helm does not escape office being elected as the new Greens Chairman to continue the very important role of managing the course particularly from the environmental viewpoint.
Bill McIntosh has been persuaded to return as Hon.Secretary and also doubles up as the Handicap Secretary. Lee Parnell remains in the role of Match Secretary and Peter McCartney continues as the Bar & House Convenor. Evan Sutherland carries on in the very important position of Junior Officer developing youngsters for the future.
The two new faces on the Council for the forthcoming season are Colin Stewart as the Membership Secretary and Trish McDonald (Ladies Captain) as the Ladies representative.
The new Council is looking to build on the success of the Award winning 2006 season when Reay was awarded the 2006 BIGGA prize as the best course in Scotland, the 2006 Best Highland Club award and the 2006 Moray Firth Radio award. Work is progressing well in preparing the new practice ground and three hole course for the youngsters and this will come into use this season. 2006 will be a hard season to top but new Captain Ian Ross is prepared for the challenge and determined to retain the BIGGA award for 2007 and looking for playing success in the Wilson Cup, Ulbster Cup and the Northern Counties Cup as Reay has attracted quite a number of quality players for the forthcoming season.
