Mens Tournaments - Season 2007-2008

Parry Trophy - 28 April 07
Colin romps home as only man to break par

Another super day for golf with a moderate breeze and many found the going tough. There were only eight birdies to report and with the CSS standing at 71 the stats showed the course was baring its teeth. It was not a surprise to find the 7th hole playing the hardest with only five making par closely followed by the 10th also proving to be troublesome. The biggest surprise was the fourth hole coming out as the easiest par as it is always a difficult par 5 but it had the wind assisting so it was definitely reachable for the majority of the field.

In Division one Chris Hobson was having a mixed day but managed a very good birdie two at the 9th with a raking putt snaking into the hole to smarten up the card. Murray McGlasson also had a birdie two but his was at the 5th hole. John O'Brien made birdie at the 12th and Colin Paterson made birdie at the 14th in a steady round. Club Champion Gavin Sutherland celebrated a return to form making a two at the 13th and another in quick succession at the 14th. Gavin had the best gross of the day shooting a 76-5-71 to secure second spot after a countback. Losing out was Ian Ritchie 80-9-71 relegated to 3rd place with the satisfaction of a fine birdie at the 3rd and a birdie two at the 9th a tricky par three. Top dog in Division one was Grant Maxwell on 79-9-70 with unusually no birdies but a fine round nevertheless to maintain good early season form.

There were no birdies in Division two in a day when scoring was difficult with only four breaking nett 80. In fourth was Bill McIntosh 94-17-77 with a very good card which disappeared with 5 off the tee on the dreaded 17th and a lost opportunity. A new name on the podium in Tim Hawes who took third place with figures of 96-21-75 and all the practice is starting to pay off. Stuart Greig and Colin Struthers shared the lowest gross of 84 with Stuart picking up second spot on 84-13-71. There was no doubt as to the winner of the Parry Trophy as Colin Struthers romped home with 84-18-66 the only man to break par all day. Nobody made par so this showed the quality of Colin's round as he cruised to victory.
