Mens Tournaments - Season 2007-2008
Pilkington Cup - 29 September 07
For a change the weather was superb for golf for the Pilkington Cup. The CSS was at 69 the course immaculate, the greens superb and at least one score was very good. The toughest par was the 2nd and the easiest par the 15th with twelve birdies. The Pilkington Cup is one of the older trophies at Reay so the contest was very keen. Colin Stewart had a nice birdie two at the 5th but then faded badly out of contention. Alistair Gunn also had a two to smarten up his card at the difficult 9th and couldn't get in the frame. Graeme Dunnett making a comeback from injury had a grandstanding two at the 18th. Andrew Crawford had back to back birdies at the 6th and a two at the 7th. George MacDonald put in a sound round with a birdie at the 17th which is always very tough. John O'Brien has lost a bit of form but still tossed in a birdie at the 6th in for him an average round. Jock Eunson birdied the 14th in a strong finish. Three players tied for second place with a nett 68 and after the dust had settled Bob Earnshaw 77-9-68 with a birdie 2 at the 5th found himself in fourth place. Andy Bain was awarded third place with 83-15-68. Peter McCartney 80-12-68 with a shot into the 17th that finished up two inches from being an eagle made a great birdie to have the best back nine of the three and so took second place. The lowest gross of 75 went to Evan Sutherland having an Indian summer to himself with 75-9-66 with a cracking birdie two at the 7th and running away with the Pilkington Cup very comfortably the last Club Trophy of the season.
