Summer Cup Round 10 - 03 July 07
Eagle on the 13th pulls Gavin through

The CSS was 69 for the Summer Cup Rd 10 so the course was playing fair if mean in only giving up 6 birdies but it did surrender one eagle. The hardest par was the 18th and strangely the easiest hole was the third. The weather was quite poor once again with better days in the winter alliance.

In Division two there were mostly nil returns but Andy Bain held a card together for 92-14-78 and second place, but it should be noted that most of the division played earlier in the day and had to take cover from a lightening storm. Willie Williamson was the best player with 91-20-71 to take the sweep money.

In Division one there was a bit more action with David Dunbar 76-5-71 on the comeback trail making a fine birdie at the 13th as he eases himself back in after an injury playing football earlier in the year. The star man was Gavin Sutherland 75-5-70 with an eagle at the par four 13th putting a remarkable two on the card. This was followed by a birdie at the 14th and further birdies at the 16th and 17th in a very strong back nine blazing home in only 32 shots which is three under par. Gavin recovered very well from a poor start running up an ugly 8 at the second but the back nine was sheer quality to take third place.

Colin Stewart 80-11-69 also had a two, but only a birdie, to tidy up his card on the par three 15th for a par round and second place just losing out on the countback. With the lowest gross of 74 and a birdie at the 12th winning the countback was the recently crowned new Club Champion John O'Brien 74-5-69 producing a very solid performance.

In the race for the Trophy the leader is Stuart Greig with an aggregate score of 341 for the best 5 rounds out of ten so far. Ominously lurking only two shots behind on 343 is John O'Brien. Colin Paterson having recently won the Strokeplay Championship is only two shots further adrift on 345 and Grant Maxwell lies in fourth on 346 with only 6 rounds to go.
