Summer Cup Round 13 - 24 July 07
Lee pushes John with steady round

There are only three rounds of the summer cup left and the season is disappearing rapidly. There has not been many opportunities to play golf in shirt sleeves with the weather being so poor. Nevertheless the CSS was again 69 with the hardest par the 6th and the easiest the 5th.

Division two golfers all but threw in the towel as there was only one card returned as the field surrendered. Youngster Hugh Tunn showed them how to do it producing a steady 88-18-70 collecting the sweep money and improving his overall position.

Colin Paterson and Raymond both made a great start with both shooting birdies at the first. Sadly both succumbed at the 6th with Raymond making a 9 and Colin a very ugly 10. Stuart Greig made birdie at the 17th but had already imploded at the 14th and lost an opportunity to improve his aggregate score.

The countback was used to separate Grant Maxwell and Gavin Sutherland in the battle for third place. Gavin made birdie at the 16th but lost the countback and had to settle for fourth with 75-5-70 and halves of 38 and 37. Grant Maxwell 77-7-70 took third struggling on the front nine going out in 43 but coming home under par in 34 thanks to two birdies at the 10th and the 16th.

Lee Parnell had the distinction of the lowest gross with a 73 going out in 38 and home in tidy par figures of 35. Lee made birdie at the 14th and his figures of 73-4-69 produced a par round and an improvement in his overall aggregate for the Summer Cup. John O'Brien is in consistent good form and the recently crowned Club Champion once again with 74-6-68 and a pair of two's at the 5th and the 9th is beginning to stretch away from the field. John was out in 35 and a bit tardy on the back nine with 39 making four bogeys.

John O'Brien leads the field with an aggregate 411 as the six best scores from thirteen. Stuart Greig unable to improve is still hanging in there sharing second with Grant Maxwell on 414. Donald Mowat is lurking on 415, Gavin Paterson on 416 and Colin Paterson on 418. Thee is still time for somebody with three rounds to go to jump out of the pack and sneak a win.
