Mens Tournaments - Season 2009-2010

Captain v Vice-Captain Trophy - 04 April 09
Captain wins and bags a Hole-in-one

A memorable Day for Reay's incoming Captain.

The opening day of any golf season, traditionally celebrated with the Captain vs. Vice Captain match is a memorable one for any new captain and non more so than for Reay Golf Club's incoming Captain Bob Earnshaw.

Little could he have known as he drove off the first tee in front of the assembled members that it was to become even more memorable as at the fifth, his seven iron from the tee rolled off the bank in front of the hole and into the cup for his 2nd hole in one in forty years of playing.

The day, although starting fair and gradually turning to heavy rain did not deter from a good turn out for the annual match to welcome in their new Captain.

With Vice Captain Murry McGlasson unavailable due to a long-standing commitment, immediate past captain Ian Ross led off the Vice Captain's side.

Despite a valiant effort from Ian and his team it was always going to be the Captain's day, the game resulting in a five and a half to two and a half win for the Captain's side.

After the match the somewhat rain soaked contestants retired to the clubhouse to enjoy a wonderful buffet and a much-deserved dram from the Captain. As is tradition Ian Ross leader of the loosing side presented the club's new Captain Bob Earnshaw with the Centenary Quach on behalf of the winning team, wishing him on behalf of the membership a very successful term of office.

Mr Earnshaw thanking those participating went on to thank everyone who worked so hard to make it a successful event and in welcoming all the new members, hoped it would be a long and happy association with the club.

He went on to tell those assembled that as well as his intention to see some improvements to the clubhouse, the year long project of constructing a three hole course for the juniors was now complete and would be opened on 25th April.

Captain's all over the country and indeed the world will be or have opened their clubs season with such an event however, very few if any will or will have done it in such style with a hole in one.
