Evan holds on to win Medal

This weekend past saw a plethora of golfing competitions at Reay. First on the menu was the August Medal on Saturday.

Category 1 saw a battle of Sutherlands with Evan going toe to toe with Gavin. And it was Evan that got off to an absolute flier starting with a brace of threes at the first and second, setting up a front nine of just two over par gross. Gavin held on to the more senior Sutherland's coat tails to be out in just three over gross. Despite a couple of bogeys early on the back nine Gav hit back with back-to-back birdies at 13 and 14 to post a challenging target of 72 nett 68 for Evan to shoot at. Things didn't look rosy to begin with as Evan dropped four shots around the turn, but he steadied the ship at the do-or-die 13th; paring in from there to score a medal winning 75 nett 67.

Completing the places was Colin Stewart with a nett 71 after a countback with Andy Mackay, Cammy Ross and John O'Brien.

In category two serial prize winner Colin Munro matched the Sutherlands with a gross 36 front nine off a 14 handicap! The thoughts of a nett fifty-something obviously started praying on Colin's mind as he then started collecting bogeys like they were going out of fashion, including two bogeys of the treble variety! However, Colin also managed to stem the tide somewhat to cross the line in a handicap beating score of 82 nett 68. With front nine scores like that it won't be long before Colin gets to suck on the rarefied air of Cat 1.
