Club Championship Qualifier & Captains Prize - 30 May 09
Great comeback for Grantie to win

With Reay Golf Club's new Captain, Bob Earnshaw, now fully ensconced in his position, an eponymous competition was well overdue. And so on Saturday members competed for the honour that accompanies lifting the Captain's Prize. In year's gone by this has included prize tups, salmon, glassware and other unusual trinkets. All breathes are bated for the prize giving to see just what Bob has to offer!

With all barometers pointing to fair and the sun beating down there really were no excuses to be found for not taming the links.

In Category 1 no fewer than 15 golfers got within the SSS buffer zone, which drove the day's scratch down to 68.

In third place was form horse Ian Ross with a net 68. Narrowly pipping Ian for second place was Lee Parnell also with a net 68, but a gross back nine of 33 helped his count-back cause.

In first place was the pugnacious Grant Maxwell, who fought back from a card wrecking 9 at the short par five 6th, to post an amazing gross 72 net 66.

In Category 2 third place went to young Ross Munro with a net 69. Highlight of Ross's round was a birdie 4 at the long par five 4th. Having rattled his second shot onto the dance floor in full view of the Vice Captain, I don't think Munro will be playing off 20 for much longer!! Andy Bain took second place with the lowest gross in category 2, shooting 81 (13) 68.

Taking the honours in Category 2 and also lifting the Captain's Prize by half a shot on countback from the Category one winner was golfing legend Kenny Farmer; Castletown's finest posting a net 66.
