Mens Tournaments - Season 2009-2010

George Coupar Challenge - 11 April 09
Murdo wins but gets handicap cut

It always looked liked being a tough day on the Links, as the wind turbines at Forss bowed to their knees in deference to their life blood that is the North Westerly!

And so it proved with not one golfer breaking his handicap in the George Couper Challenge at Reay on Saturday.

A large field assembled to battle the gale force winds as well as the course.

The fact that the majority of these players were unable to reach those par fours into the wind, such as the second and 11th, in two blows bore testament to difficulties faced.

One golfer, however, stood head and shoulders above the entry.

Murdo MacDonald posted 36 points in this stableford competition to match his handicap and take the spoils. And with the CSS up to 71 for the day, Murdo also gets a handicap cut thrown into the bargain.

It was a close run thing for the minor places with Cammie Ross, Wayne Mowat, Colin Munro and Grant Coghill all picking up 34 well earned points.

And what do points make?

Well, in the case of seasoned campaigner and all round rough weather expert Cammie Ross and Colin Munro, making his prodigal return from a footballing sebatical, second and third prizes respectively.

Saturday 25th sees the first of the summer medals at Reay and Sunday 26th is the High Low foursomes for which there is a 0900 shotgun start.
