Mens Tournaments - Season 2009-2010

Winter Eclectic Final Round - 27 March 10
Wayne holds on for win

In the eclectic, late bursts by Greame Dunnett and round 6 winner Bruce MacKay were not enough to rein in long time leader Wayne Mowat. Wayne nett 61 in round 2 gave the rest of the field too much to do and Wayne ran out winner by less than half a stroke from Graeme.

Winter Eclectic Round 3 - 13 February 10
Wayne has great round to win

Saturday saw the much postponed round 3 of the winter eclectic finally take place at Reay. And with some exceptional scoring it certainly proved worth the wait.

First place on the day went to Wayne Mowat with a flawless gross 66 net 61 return. Wayne opened with four straight pars, followed by a brace of back to back birdies at the fifth and sixth. A further birdie at the ninth gave Wayne a front nine of 31 strokes. Nine straight pars on the back nine added up to 35 strokes for an overall total of 66; by far the lowest score for some considerable time at Reay.

Conditions were obviously to the liking of many players with a further five net scores on or below the course par of 69.

In second place was Richard McDonald who amassed a total of four birdies on his way to a gross 70 net 63, edging Bruce Mackay's 73 net 63 into third place on countback.

Andy MacKay and John O'Brien must've been crying into their post round drams to learn that their impressive net 66s weren't even enough to scoop up some consolation sweep money.

The rest of the field ensured that the eclectic lived up to its name by recording myriad of scores from birdie twos right through to an octo-bogey 12. Room for improvement!

Winter Eclectic Round 2 - 21 November 09
Nicolson wins with England's favourite number!

In round 2 the going proved a touch tougher with the links' only protection, the wind, finding its puff again after its asthmatic wheezing in round 1.

Topping the sweep money chart this week was John Nicolson with a nett 66, closely followed by Stephen MacKay's 68; both golfer's playing steady golf.

But as the previous writer of this report used to say 'the eclectic is all about Birdies', amply illustrated by the latest leader-board, which shows Graeme Dunnett out in front thanks to an eclectic scorecard that already boasts 6 of our feathered friends! His adjusted handicap net score of 61.5 sees the field wallowing at least 4 shots back.

With just four rounds to go, the question on everyone's lips is 'Who can catch the birdie machine?'

Winter Eclectic Round 1 - 17 October 09
Colin rips course apart for win

In the first round of this year's Winter Eclectic it was all about one man: Colin Munro.

Playing off a handicap of 12, Colin tore the links apart with a gross score of 72, giving him a net 60. The authorities have been informed and Colin has become the first victim of the Handicap Secretaries winter scimitar.

The Winter Eclectic is all about amassing birdies and Colin has certainly done his chances of winning the overall competition no harm with 3 of the little fellows at the 5th, 6th and 15th.

A mention in dispatches for a welcome return to form for Graeme Dunnett, whose gross 68 (4) 64, including 2 birdies, saw him take second place at least keeps a modicum of pressure on Colin.
