Mens Tournaments - Season 2009-2010

Winter Stableford Final Round - 27 March 10
Colin wins trophy

The Winter League Stableford came to a whimpering end with no further rounds being played, leaving early front runner Colin Stewart at the top of the table.

Winter Stableford Round 6 - 07 February 10
Colin's second win in one weekend

Not one to be resting on his Saturday laurels, Colin girded his Sunday loins and set about the 6th round of the Winter League Stableford with equal gusto, recording an equally impressive victory with a points tally of 41. Surely this kind of prolonged run of form has stirred the Handicap Secretary from his winter hibernation!

Best of the rest was Ian Ritchie with 38 points and Cammie Ross and John O'Brien with 37 points apiece.

At the half way stage (3 scores counting from 6) of the Winter League Stableford Colin Stewart's recent form bubble seems him leading with 114 points, closely followed by Ian Ritchie on 112 and Lee Parnell on 110.

Winter Stableford Round 4 - 28 November 09
Lee wins by three

Round 4 was played in slightly tougher conditions, with a chill easterly thinning the blood.

Coping best with the conditions was Lee Parnell, who posted 41 points to finish 3 clear of the chasing pack of Dav Mackay (38) and Davie Mowat (37).

Next came 'steady-eddy' Donald (Mojo) Mowat, who yet again played to his handicap of 36 points along with Winter Member Nick Clasper.

Winter Stableford Round 3 - 14 November 09
Joe wins his second Stableford

Back in the fray for round three after giving everyone a chance in round two was Joe Wilson.

The much improved weather conditions were to everyone's liking, especially Joe, who piled on the highest score of the winter so far; 42 points taking the spoils on the day and putting Joe in an early position of strength in the overall competition.

Also breaking through the 36 point barrier in this round were dependable lefty Ian Ritchie with 40 points and Andy Bain, who's newly laid top-lip turf, must surely have helped him in amassing 39 points.

Winter Stableford Round 2 - 08 November 09
No stopping Freddie with 5 birdies in a row

Delayed because of the aforementioned inclement weather, but crucially not cancelled, round 2 saw club president Fred Groves take advantage of the extra rest period between rounds firing a fantastic 41 points.

So rested and at one with his inner karma was Fred that his score included a run of five birdies in a row. Rising like the kraken from the depths of Spring Lochy (13th), Fred's birdie blitz crashed through Mary's Cottage (14th), danced on the Viking's Grave (15th), paid deference at Reay's Kirk (16th) and leapt Dossie's Dyke (17th) before finally abating in front of an oblivious gallery enjoying the club-house hospitality.

Donald Mowat again played to his handicap with 36 points, with Lee Parnell, Murray McGlasson and Hugh Millar all opening their accounts with 35 points.

Winter Stableford Round 1 - 24 October 09
Joe beats handicap for opening spoils

Not so long time ago, on a links far far away. Reay Winter League Stableford. Round IV. A new hope.

It is a period of cold winter days. Hardy golfers striking from the Yellow Tees attempt to win this most prestigious of prizes.

In a competition that sees a players best 6 stableford scores out of a weather permitting 12 counting it is vital to get a good start. Indeed last year's ever changing climatic conditions saw only six rounds completed.

And so, out of the blocks first in, a closely fought, round one was Joe Wilson with a 37 pointer, closely followed by Donald (Mojo) Mowat with a par equalling 36 points.

Also setting a solid foundation from which to pounce in later weeks were Colin Munro, George MacDonald and Gavin Gunn, all bagging 35 points, with Colin Stewart and Richard McDonald a further point back.
