Captain v Vice-Captain Trophy - 03 April 10
Reay's golfers could be forgiven for thinking that the winter season had been elongated this year as the wind and rain welcomed them to the traditional summer season curtain raiser that is the Captain versus Vice Captain Challenge.
While the Captain Bob Earnshaw was eager to get his second season at the helm underway in any conditions, the weather proved too much for Vice Captain Murray McGlasson, who chose to cruise the Med instead, and so Match Secretary Lee Parnell had to step in to the breech once more and defend the trophy won by the Vice Captain 12 months ago.
The competition was keenly fought and in the end came to a fitting climax.
The captain, partnered by Davie Mowat, was all square with Lee Parnell and Bill Budding going down the last. When all four players missed the 18th green, all looked set fair for an honourable draw. However, Budding had other ideas. From short of the green, the man whose short game is the envy of many a professional, (such as Richard Boxhall), chipped in for a match and trophy winning birdie two! The Vice Captain had retained the trophy 5.5 to 4.5.
