Mens Tournaments - Season 2008-2009
A&A Mackay (Builders) Open - 29 June 08 Further evidence that Roddy Harper is getting back to his previous level of golf performance was provided in Sunday's A&A Mackay (Builders) Open at Thurso Golf Club. The former Club Champion took 35 shots for both nines for a winning one over par gross 70. His nett 65 was also the lowest of the day. On the way out a birdie at the eighth compensated for a bogey at the fifth and on the way in a run of threes from the twelfth to the fifteenth helped balance bogeys at the tenth, sixteenth and seventeenth holes. Chris Maycock, formerly a member at Thurso before moving to Inverurie, made a successful return visit by winning the lower handicap category with a fine nett 66 round. Now playing off a seven handicap, Maycock was one over par on the way out and two over on the way in. Doug Mackenzie had 39 shots for each of his nines for a nett 67 and second place in the category. John Morrison too had 39 shots on the way out but a seven at the seventeenth was to prove costly and he had to settle for third place on nett 68. It was a good day for Alan Kennedy as he made light of a couple of eights to return a nett 67 to win the higher handicap category by a shot from Alan 'Skins' Mackenzie and Jack McCracken. After a sparkling 38 on the way out McCracken hit the buffers on the way in and it was Mackenzie, with a more even round, who claimed second place on count back. Fresh from his victory in the Reay Open the previous day Gavin Sutherland got round in 75 shots to claim second place behind Maycock in the scratch category. Count back was needed to sort out the winner of the Ladies prize and it was Isobel Kirkpatrick who got the nod over Ann Youngson after both returned nett 72's. End-of-Document |
