Club Championship & Monthly Medals - Season 2008-2009
J&G Sutherland - August Medal -
16 August 08 A strong southerly wind made scoring very difficult with only 5 players breaking par. Unusually, the CSS rose to 70. In 5th place was course record holder, Jim Sangster. Jim, currently starring on the Stromness Golf Club web site, had five birdies in his round of 70(2)68. Only a three putt on the 18th prevented him from breaking the elusive 70 barrier. Jim had the consolation of reducing his handicap to one. In 4th place Open champion Donald Sutherland continued his fine form with a very steady round of 76(9)67. Donald was also rewarded with a cut in his handicap to eight. Terry Mackay occupied the bronze medal position, also with a nett 67 and he too reduced his handicap to thirteen. Second place was taken by Keith Dreaves with a superb 85(20)65. This score led for most of the day but was pipped at the post by one of the late starters. Keith's reward was seeing his handicap reduced to nineteen. In first place and the winner of the August Medal was Bryan Suttar. Bryan's round of 74(9)65 was enough to take the medal by virtue of a better back nine from Keith. Bryan's handicap is now reduced to eight. Bryan is now beginning to realise his potential and certainly has a good enough swing to reduce his handicap further. End-of-Document |
