Harvey shines on for 5 hole win...

After a couple of blank weekends, the J&G Sutherland February Medal was eventually contested at Thurso Golf Club at the weekend.

In decidedly windy conditions Harvey Cowe turned in a remarkable nett 66 to win by five shots from his nearest challengers.

An eleven handicap player, Cowe was only two over par at the turn and kept scoring well on the back nine with a double bogey six at the long sixteenth the only blemish. To put the 'blemish' in perspective though, the 24 strong field did not get a single par at the hole and only three bogeys were returned.

Count back was required to sort out second place after Angus Cameron and January Medal winner Bryan Ronald both returned nett 71's and it was Cameron who got the nod by a shot from Ronald who had the day's best outward nine of level par 35 with birdies at the fourth and eighth balancing bogeys at the second and third holes.

Ian Macphee finished alone in fourth place with a nett 73, a shot ahead of Lachie Sutherland and Bob Robertson.
