Bryan Ronald wins by a shot...

It transpired that there was a strong Halkirk association about the event. The Club's monthly medals are sponsored by Halkirk company J&G Sutherland and the January version's top three places were filled by Halkirk residents.

Pride of place went to Bryan Ronald who played some superb golf in his gross 80, nett 76, to win by a shot from Keith Dreaves and Billy Sutherland.

On a day when damage limitation was the name of the game, Ronald's only real slip was a double bogey six at the eighth, the easiest hole on the course.

In common with most players, Dreaves had used up most of his handicap by the turn but kept things together on the way in and finished with the only par of the day at the eighteenth to relegate playing partner Sutherland into third place.

Sutherland's round was pretty even with nothing worse than a seven on his card. This was in sharp contrast to one trio, who shall be nameless, who took a total of 33 shots on the par 5 seventh hole.
