Ozzy gives silverware and now takes some...

Last Thursday Steve Osborne was handing out the prizes to winners in the JGC Open but on Saturday he became a winner himself in the J&G Sutherland July Medal at Thurso Golf Club. Playing conditions for the Medal were perfect and it was no surprise that there was some very low nett scores returned.

Osborne, playing off a 22 handicap, reached the turn in 43 shots from a mixture of pars, bogeys and double bogeys. His inward nine was much more consistent and a further 41 shots saw him home in nett 62. He was not alone on this mark however and count back was needed to confirm his win over Graeme Henderson and Jack Johnstone.

Johnstone, a 16 handicap man, had gone to the turn in level par but needed eight shots more for the inward nine and had to settle for third place. Henderson actually had the same score as the winner for the inward nine but lost out on the final six holes.

Stephen Lowe had 41 shots for both nines and finished alone in fourth place with a nett 64, one ahead of Jimmy Bruce, Ronnie Gray and Peter O'Hare who shared the day's low round of 73 with Stephen Williamson.
