J&G Sutherland/June Medal/Club Championship Round 3 - 21 June 08
Times & Partners now available...

Eighty players contested the J&G Sutherland, June Medal at Thurso Golf Club on Saturday. For the most part, conditions were reasonably good resulting in a high standard of scoring.

There was an evenness about the winning round by Sandy Stewart. He covered both nines in 36 shots with a birdie in each one, at the eighth and fourteenth holes, for a nett 65 to win by a shot from Nicky Doherty and Keith Dreaves.

Both Doherty and Dreaves have been in fine form this season. On Saturday Doherty earned second place courtesy of a superb inward nine of 35 strokes made up of eight fours and a three.

Five players had nett 67's with Dougie Wright, Bob Black and Charles Burness earning the rest of the sweep money and Lachie Sutherland and Michael Sutherland missing out after count back was applied.

Saturday's round was also the final qualifying for this year's club championships with the best two from three rounds counting towards the qualification.

Generally qualifying scores were markedly lower than last year with current champion Doug Thorburn the top scratch qualifier on level par 138, two ahead of previous champion Brent Munro.

Neil Jackson lead the handicap qualifiers with an extremely impressive total of nett 130 but will not be able to play because of offshore working commitments.

Medal winner Stewart was leading senior qualifier but he too will be unable to play because of onshore holiday commitments.
