J&G Sutherland - November Medal - 01 November 08
Wylie is clear of field by three...

After the first signs of winter earlier in the week conditions for Saturday's J&G Sutherland November Medal at Thurso Golf Club could scarcely have been better.

They obviously suited Ed Wylie who secured an emphatic victory with a nett 64, three strokes clear of second placed Clark Grant.

The quality of the win for the eleven handicap player was indicated by his gross score of 75 being the lowest of the day. Only two other players, Stephen Williamson (77) and Stephen Cowie (78), managed to break 80.

Wylie, who was third in the October Medal, was only two over par for his front nine and four over on the way in with three shots dropped on the last three holes.

After a steady front nine of 43 shots, Grant was even steadier on the back nine that he covered in 40 shots for his nett 67, two clear of Harvey Cowe and George Mitchell who finished in that order after count back.

Cowe had six threes on his card, two of those being birdies at the thirteenth and fifteenth holes. The thirteenth probably was decisive in the outcome as Mitchell ran up a double bogey six there and lost the count back by a shot.
