Senior Tournaments - Season 2008-2009
Eclectic 13 - 02 October 08
Jack is this seasons champion...
A clash with the final Caithness and Sutherland Seniors fixture at Golspie last Tuesday meant that the final round of Thurso Golf Club's senior section's Summer Eclectic was played in fairly autumnal conditions last Thursday.
Ian Fraser, who won the first round way back at the beginning of July, was the winner of the final round with a very respectable total of 35 points with 18 of those coming on the inward nine. Gary Henderson, with 17 points for both nines was second on 34 points, two clear of Bob Black and Bill Hossack.
Black got his four at the long tenth hole to get down to an eclectic total of nett 62 for a share of sixth place overall with Sandy Reid who improved by two shots on Thursday with a birdie two at the fourteenth and a par at the challenging sixteenth.
None of the top three played in the final round and their nearest challengers failed to improve their scores so the final outcome was a particularly impressive win for Donald Jack with nett 54. Jack's gross total was 56, 13 under par-superb scoring. David Thom, who has been in fine form for the last few weeks was second with nett 58.5, one and a half shots clear of third placed Ian Manson, Jack's regular Tuesday playing partner.
Competition organiser Jim Buchan shared fourth place with Dave Lyall, both scoring nett 61.5.
Eclectic 12 - 23 September 08
Warren takes penultimate round...
Although conditions remained good for the senior members on Tuesday, scores were more modest with David Warren coming out on top with 37 points, two clear of Ronald Mackay and Pat Valentine. None of the top six in the eclectic managed to improve their score ahead of next Thursday's final round.
Second placed Dave Thom will miss the final round as he will be on holiday and he leaves with the satisfaction of having won the EGGS knock out trophy after a final hole victory over Sandy Reid.
Eclectic 11 - 16 September 08
Black wins on countback...
A better inward nine was also needed by Bob Black in the eleventh round of the EGGS Summer Stableford on Tuesday to beat Ronald Mackay on count back after both scored 35 points. Sandy Reid and Gary Henderson were next best with 34 points.
Donald Jack added yet another birdie to his tally, at the long tenth this time, to move to nett 54 in the overall eclectic. He now leads by four and a half shots from Dave Thom and by six from Ian Manson.
Jim Buchan and Dave Lyall holed a couple of good putts to improve by a shot each and share fourth place on nett 61.5.
With two rounds remaining it is surely a case of 'Who is going to be second?'
Eclectic 10 - 09 September 08
King of the Castle for Les...
The latest round of the EGGS Summer Eclectic was also played on Thursday with Les King and Dave Thom, both winners at the Struie course a couple of days earlier, both scoring 34 points. With 18 of his points coming on the inward nine, King claimed first place.
Sandy Reid and newcomer Mac Mahendrin finished a point behind the leading pair.
In the overall competition there's absolutely no stopping Donald Jack who added another couple of birdies, at the fourth and ninth holes, on Tuesday to get down to a hugely impressive twelve under par gross total of 57, nett 55, to lead Thom by three and a half shots with Ian Manson the same margin away in third place.
Eclectic 9 - 02 September 08
Todd grabs first win...
Current leader of the EGGS Summer Eclectic, Donald Jack, also went unrewarded on Tuesday but perhaps this could be excused as he is already ten under par and leads the competition on nett 57.
George Todd claimed his first win in EGGS competitions with 38 points on Tuesday, one better than David Warren and Ronald Mackay.
Dave Thom's par at the tenth hole saw him move into second place on nett 59.5, one ahead of Ian Manson. Bob Black, Jim Johnston and Dave Lyall are best of the rest on nett 62.5.
Eclectic 8 - 26 August 08
Feb14 wins with 37 pointer...
The EGGS Summer Eclectic still has five rounds remaining but already Donald Jack has set a high standard of scoring for others to aim at.
Last week's winner was Pat Valentine with 37 points, one better than Alan Simmonite with Ron Ritchie a point further back.
Jack's nett total so far stands at 57, ten under par, and he leads by three from Ian Manson who reduced his total by two thanks to a birdie at the eleventh last week.
Thom is half a shot further back and those three have established a fair gap over the rest of the contenders.
Eclectic 7 - 19 August 08
Thom scores his age to win...
Jack was in excellent form in the seventh round shooting a 69 to match his age and score 41 Stableford points while he was at it.
The highlight of his round was an eagle two at the second hole - a rare bird indeed! Despite such a fine display Jack did not win as Dave Thom also shot an age equalling round, in his case 72, for a winning 42 point total. Thom had three birdies, at the second, seventh and eighteenth holes.
Sandy Reid also had a fine score of 39 points for third place, three clear of Jim Buchan.

Hawthorn cruises in this weeks Eclectic...
The seniors had much improved conditions on Tuesday for the latest round of the EGGS Summer Stableford with Jim Hawthorn coming out on top with 40 points, 21 of those coming on the way in despite a blank at the seventeenth.
Les King, who marked the winner's card had a good day himself with 37 points for second place.
Ian Manson, Donald Jack and David Warren all finished on the 36 point mark.
Eclectic 2 - 15 July 08
Youngson beats Fraser on countback...
Ian Fraser was denied back to back wins in the EGGS Summer Eclectic after losing out to Jim Youngson on count back after both scored 37 points in the wind on Tuesday.
George Mitchell, Ian Manson and Donald Jack were next best on 36 points.
Predictably, even at this early stage of the competition, Jack is leading, albeit by half a shot from Fraser, Manson and Dave Thom.
Eclectic 1 - 08 July 08
Fraser wins on countback...
Scoring in the opening round of the EGGS Summer Eclectic on Tuesday was understandably a bit higher but respectable none the less as Ian Fraser won first place on count back from Sandy Wright after both returned totals of 40 points.
Jim Hawthorn, Ron Ritchie and Dave Lyall all finished two points behind the leading pair.
