Mens Tournaments - Season 2008-2009

Reid & Fraser Open - 12 July 08
Thorburn, Harper and McAllan lift the awards

Thurso Golf Club's Roddy Harper is obviously in fine form just now. In the last couple of weeks he has won the A&A Mackay Open and had a Summer League victory. On Saturday he added to his wins with the lowest nett round of 66 in the Reid and Fraser Open. On this occasion he did not claim the scratch award however as that went to Doug Thorburn, currently involved in his defence of the club championship.

Harper was only two over par for his round, his only birdie coming at the thirteenth, and finished a shot clear of Sid Campbell and Lee Parnell in the lower handicap category. After count back half a shot separated the two with Campbell being awarded second place. Lachie Sutherland claimed fourth place with a nett 69.

Thorburn was one over par at the turn in his round having dropped a shot at the sixth but he changed gear after that to come home in 31 shots with birdies at the tenth, thirteenth, fourteenth and seventeenth for a gross 67. Jim Sangster was level par for both nines in finishing second to Thorburn with a gross 69.

Wick's Michael McAllan had a good steady round to claim first place in the higher handicap category with a nett 67 but he needed count back to see off the challenge of Reay's, Liam Bremner. Hamish Boyd and Andrew Main completed the prize list, finishing second and third respectively after both returned nett 68's.
