Summer Cup & Strokeplay Championship - Season 2008-2009
Summer League 18 - 20&21 August 08 By any standards, last Wednesday was an extraordinary day in the golfing life of Ian Macphee. Playing in Thurso Golf Club's Summer League, Macphee not only had the season's highest points total but also had a hole in one in the process. Playing with Jack McCracken, Macphee used a five iron to hole out on the 158 yard ninth hole for the third hole in one at Thurso this season. Warren Gordon having aced the third and Ricky Eunson the fifth. It is not unusual for a player's game to go all to pot after scoring a hole in one but that didn't apply to Macphee as he amassed a massive 46 point total that earned him a three shot handicap cut and a share of sixth place in the league. Graham Harness has been having some good scores in the league this season and claimed second place behind Macphee with 42 points that got him into second place overall. Alastair Bell and Mark Parsonage shared 41 point totals with Doug Mackenzie also in the money with 40 points. Fresh from an age equalling round in the EGGS Summer Eclectic two days earlier (a feat shared with Donald Jack), Dave Thom continued his excellent form with a 39 point winning total in Thursday's session of the league, beating Jim Meiklejohn on count back in the process. Count back was also needed to sort out the rest of the prize winners with Andrew Main, Alan Swanson and Ewan Mackenzie finishing in that order after all scored 38 points. Swanson's round allowed him to stay at the top of the league on 306 points, one ahead of Harness with Mark Parsonage(304), Stephen Fidler(303) and Andy MacGregor(302) also above the 300 point mark.
