Summer League 6 - 28&29 May 08
Crafty Fidler just sneaks it on countback...

'Chalk and cheese' was an appropriate phrase for conditions that applied to the days for the Summer League at Thurso Golf Club last week.

On Wednesday the weather deteriorated badly though the day so that the Competition Standard Scratch (CSS) went up by a shot but by Thursday conditions could scarcely have been better and the CSS went down by a shot.

Nicky Doherty is having a good season and a splendid 41 point return on Wednesday saw him win by five points from Keith Dreaves and also lead the League rankings with a best five round aggregate of 182. Mark Mackay claimed third place with 35 points, beating Charles Burness on count back. Trevor Henderson was a point further back, two ahead of Gavin Sutherland and Stuart McIntosh.

Not surprisingly, there was some fancy scoring on Thursday when 60 players turned out.

Stephen Fidler earned a victory for the 'lefties' with a great total of 42 points. However, he still needed count back to fend off the challenge of Peter Sangster who is making a real impact this season and is still only 13 years old.

Andrew Mackay earned a two shot handicap cut for his 41 point round and a share of second place in the League rankings with Michael Forbes, both having five round aggregates of 178. He also earned third place sweep money after count back relegated David Irvine and Bob Black into fourth and fifth place respectively after they too scored 41 points.

Alan Swanson had 34 shots for each nine for the day's best gross score and 40 points.

Jim Meiklejohn, Innes Mitchell, William Durrand and Joe Duffy all scored 38 points, one ahead of Lachie Sutherland, Jim Johnston and Bryan Sutter.
