Thor Fishing Seniors Open - 09 July 08
Former Thurso captain, Morrison wins title
The other Open to take place at Thurso last week was for the Seniors and sponsored by Thor Fishing.
The event was well supported by the local clubs together with a hearty contingent from Brora and the intrepid pair of Gerald Klein and Lachlan Ross from Durness.
This year's winner was John Morrison, a former captain at Thurso, with a total of 39 points based on a two over par front nine of 22 points, four of those coming from a birdie at the seventh.
Lenny Murray made his effort on the inward nine that yielded 22 points on the way to a total of 38 points and second place.
Sandy Wright had 18 points for both nines in finishing third in the lower handicap category.
Bill McIntosh, now playing out of Glen Golf Club, claimed top place in the higher handicap category with a 38 point effort to relegate Reay's Calum Mackenzie and Thurso's Sandy Reid into second and third places after both finished a point behind the winner. McIntosh's round was characterised by a fine display at the par three holes and a very good finish of only one over par for the final three holes.
Brora's Ronnie Sim who represented the Wick club many years ago before going south, won the scratch award with 30 points.
