Mens Tournaments - Season 2009-2010

A&A Mackay Open - 12 July 09
Mother-in-law wins open

Last weekend's A&A Mackay Open at Thurso Golf Club was a pretty special one for sponsor Alan Mackay. Despite setting the standard for scoring by a sponsor in winning the Category 2 section he failed to win the family bragging rights as his mother in law, Ann Youngson, had the lowest score of the day in winning the ladies section.

Ann's nett 64 was considerably clear of her lady rivals and one better than Harvey Cowe who won the men's Category 1 section.

On a good day for visiting players Alastair Gunn (Reay) took second place in Category 1 with a nett 68, four clear of third placed Roy Kikpatrick who learned the game at Thurso before moving south.

Alan Mackay's winning nett 66 in Category 2 was five shots better than Keith Dreaves and Danny O'Hagan (Reay) who finished in that order after count back.

On a difficult day for scoring, when the Standard Scratch went up by a couple of shots, John Hunter (Wick) was two over par for each nine in winning the scratch section with a gross 73.
