J&G Sutherland/July Medal - 11 July 09
Mackay gets new car and top score of 70
There was no doubt about the top round of the week at Thurso Golf Club last week as Mark Mackay began to fulfil his golfing potential with a best of the day gross 70, nett 61, to win Saturday's J&G Sutherland July Medal, in emphatic fashion.
His round did not get off to the best of starts as he was two over par after three holes but birdies at the fourth, sixth and eighth holes sorted that out and got him to the turn in one under par. His only other birdie was at the eighteenth and it was the icing on an already fine cake.
Michael Forbes finished four shots behind the winner in second place with a very steady performance.
The same could be said of Andy Costello and Adrian Williams who finished in third and fourth places respectively with nett 66's.
Innes Mitchell had a one over par inward nine to claim fifth place from Stuart Bell, Andrew Main and Ronnie Gray after all returned nett 67's on a day of good scoring that reflected excellent conditions.
