Club Championships Round 3 & June Medal - 20 June 09
Alistair Bell wins with a 64
Alistair Bell gave notice that he had found a bit of form in last weekend's JGC Open and subsequently produced the goods in Saturday's J&G Sutherland June Medal at Thurso Golf Club with a first class nett 64 to win by a shot from Roddy Harper.
Bell was two over par after three holes but repaired the damage with back-to-back birdies at the seventh and eighth holes to be out in level par. A further birdie was to follow at the thirteenth hole in a one over par inward nine for a gross 70.
Harper also had 35 shots for each nine and three birdies as well.
Another of the crop of promising junior players, Jordan Youngson, had a spectacular back nine to earn third place on count back over Jim Sangster and Stephen Williamson.
Youngson had a pretty up and down front nine of 49 shots but the inward nine was a very different story with nothing worse than a five and a birdie at the thirteenth included in his total of 38, an eleven shot improvement.
Thirty five seemed to be a popular front nine total as Jim Sangster added to the list but his inward nine was even better with five threes, three of them birdies, and a total of 68, the best of the day by a couple of shots.
Gary Calder and Ed Wylie were next best with nett 67's.
