Senior Tournaments - Season 2009-2010

EGGS Summer Stableford 13 - 30 June 09
Ronnie misses last round but wins

Ronald Mackay's farming interests kept him from playing the final round of the EGGS Summer Stableford on Tuesday but he was able to rest on his laurels and was a comfortable winner of the Wallace Trophy with a best six round total of 221 points.

On a day of relatively poor scoring Ian Fraser won Tuesday's final round with 39 points, three clear of Dave Thom and Joe Duffy.

Jim Buchan improved his total by a couple of points to share second place overall with Sandy Wright.

George Mitchell(208) and Donald Jack(206) filled the next couple of places.

The EGGS begin their Summer Eclectic on Tuesday and hope to be joined by other seniors for the Thor Fishing Senior Open on Wednesday. The intrepid trio of seniors from Durness have already indicated their intention to play.

Ronnie increases his lead to 10 points

Mackay, long time leader in the competition, dealt a further blow to his rivals with another win on Tuesday with 39 points, two ahead of Donald Jack and Dave Lyall, and is now ten points clear of nearest challengers Jim Buchan and Sandy Wright.

As the seniors will be engaged in a match with their Wick counterparts on Tuesday, the final round of the Summer Stableford will be played on Thursday.

EGGS Summer Stableford 11 - 16 June 09
Debutante Thom wins with 36 points

The EGGS Summer Stableford for the Wallace Trophy is drawing to a close. Last week's round was won by Dave Thom making his first appearance in the competition.

Thom's winning total was 36 points, two better than Ronald Mackay in second place.

EGGS Summer Stableford 10 - 09 June 09
Simmy wins it on front nine

Alan Simmonite was a convincing winner of Round 10 of the EGGS Summer Stableford on Tuesday with 39 points, 21 of those coming from a first class front nine.

Jim Hawthorn, George Mitchell, Ronald Mackay and Ian Fraser were next best with 36 points.

With three rounds remaining, Mackay is a clear leader with a best six round total of 217 points. Sandy Wright is in second place with 210 points, one ahead of Jim Buchan in third place.

EGGS Summer Stableford 9 - 02 June 09
Buchan bags first birdie and good round

Competition organiser Jim Buchan had a splendid day on Tuesday as he won the ninth round of the EGGS Summer Stableford with 43 points.

Things were going all right with 18 points to the turn but got a whole lot better with his first ever birdie at the tenth and only another 33 shots for the remaining holes.

George Mitchell was second on his own with 37 points, 20 of those on the front nine, with Alan Simmonite and Joe Duffy a point further back.

EGGS Summer Stableford 8 - 26 May 09
Bailey is one better than Lyle in tough conditions

Heavy overnight rain caused the course to play its full length for the Seniors on Tuesday in the eighth round of the EGGS Summer Stableford.

Gordon Bailey, with a very good 20 point outward nine, was the winner with 36 points, one better than Dave Lyall.

Sandy Wright, with 19 points on the inward nine, was third on 33 points.

EGGS Summer Stableford 7 - 19 May 09
Ronald sneaks it by a single point

All three of the top players in the latest round of the EGGS Summer Stableford on Tuesday went round in gross 79 but after handicaps were applied Ronald Mackay emerged as winner with 39 points, one ahead of Ian Manson and by two from Doug McCowan.

Jim Hawthorn will also get a handicap cut for his 37 point effort.

At the halfway stage of the competition Mackay and Sandy Wright are the leading contenders.

EGGS Summer Stableford 6 - 12 May 09
Reid only person to reach 36 points

Scoring was modest in the sixth round of the EGGS Summer Stableford on Tuesday with only winner Sandy Reid achieving the 36 point mark.

Ron Ritchie was next best on 35 points, one better than Gary Henderson.

EGGS Summer Stableford 5 - 05 May 09
Sandy Wright on the button in the wind

The seniors also got a windy day for the fifth round of the EGGS Summer Stableford on Tuesday but it didn't appear to bother Sandy Wright and Ronald Mackay too much as they finished first and second respectively with 36 and 35 points, three points clear of Joe Duffy and Ronnie Williamson.

It was a second win in the competition for Wright who already has a very impressive best four round total.

EGGS Summer Stableford 4 - 28 April 09
Buchan grabs it with 40 points

EGGS supremo Jim Buchan will have to apply a two shot reduction to his EGGS handicap after winning the fourth round of the Summer Stableford on Tuesday with a very good total of 40 points relegating Doug Mccowan who had 39 points into second place.

Sandy Wright had another fine round for 38 points, one ahead of Ronald Mackay and Jim Johnston.

EGGS Summer Stableford 3 - 21 April 09
Jack just sneaks it in bad weather

The fair weather contingent gave Tuesday's third round a miss with some justification as it rained for most of the day.

Donald Jack and Ronald Mackay made light of the weather though with 35 point efforts, Jack getting the nod on count back.

Reid was in the frame again with 33 points, as had Les King.

Andy McKenzie was the only other player to beat the 30 point mark, by one.

EGGS Summer Stableford 2 - 16 April 09
Mitchel wins in fine weather

The second round of the EGGS Summer Stableford was played in fine conditions last Thursday and resulted in a win for George Mitchell who beat Gary Henderson on count back after both scored 37 points.

Round 1 winner Sandy Wright had a couple of fine birdies in finishing in third place a point behind the leading pair.

Sandy Reid was next best on 34 points, one better than David Warren.

EGGS Summer Stableford 1 - 07 April 09
Wright beats Mackay by 1 point

It was all about the inward nine again on Tuesday in the opening round of the EGGS Summer Stableford when a strong wind made scoring difficult, especially over the closing holes.

A good number of players were well in contention at the half way stage with Ronald Mackay the best with 19 points but Sandy Wright had the best inward nine of 17 points and his 35 point total proved to be a winning one, by a point from Mackay.

David Warren was next best on 31 points, one better than Doug McCowan and Ian Manson.
