EGGS Winter
Eclectic Final - 30 March 2010
Johnston wins Eclectic
Only the committed turned out for the final round of the EGGS Winter Eclectic on Tuesday when the weather matched the title with a biting wind and the occasional snow shower.
One of the joint leaders, Sandy Reid, was in a class of his own with 38 points, winning by five points from the other joint leader Jim Hawthorn. Jim Johnston and David Warren were a further point back.
Sadly, the winner paid the price for his success, as a two shot improvement in the Eclectic was nullified by a two shot reduction in his handicap and it was Johnston who emerged as Eclectic winner with a four shot improvement on Tuesday to nett 53.
Dave Lyall improved by a couple of shots and Bill Hossack by one to earn a share of second place with Reid and Hawthorn on nett 55.
EGGS supremo Jim Buchan was next best on nett 56, one ahead of Ian Manson and Warren.

Jim Hawthorn improved by two shots to move into a share of first place in the Eclectic with Sandy Reid who, despite a fine inward nine of 20 points, failed to improve on his total of nett 55.
Buchan was the day's big mover, by four shots, and shares third place with previous leader Bill Hossack on nett 56. Jim Johnston and Lyall are a further shot away.

Strong green play from Wright gives him win
It was back to normal business for the senior players on Tuesday as they played a further round of the EGGS Winter Eclectic after being restricted to a Stableford on winter greens the previous week, won by relative newcomer Ivan Paterson with 37 points.
Obviously benefiting from a long lay off, Sandy Wright was in fine form, especially round the greens, and emerged victorious with 37 points, one ahead of Sandy Reid and Jim Hawthorn.
Eighteen points on the way out with a lost ball on the seventh followed by a birdie on the eighth, Wright added a further birdie at the thirteenth on the way in.
Donald Farquhar matched the 'academics', Reid and Wright, with 19 points for the inward nine to finish on 35 points, one better than playing partner Pat Valentine and Dave Lyall.
Previous leader of the competition, Bill Hossack, did well to improve by three shots but Reid did even better, improving by five shots to take over the lead on nett 55, one ahead of Hossack.
Hawthorn assumed third place on nett 57, one better than Lyall, Ian Manson and Jim Johnston with Pat Valentine a further shot away after a seven shot improvement, thanks mainly to an impressive 20 point outward nine.
