Geordie wins by one in windy conditions

Thurso Golf Club's Summer League is being sponsored this year by Newsbeat and the first players to hit the headlines in the season long competition were Geordie Bain and Stephen Spargo who both scored 37 Stableford points on a pretty windy day.

Spargo had a very good one over par front nine that contained a birdie two at the fifth and was in pole position with 20 points. His back nine wasn't bad either but his 17 points were not quite enough to win first place as Bain had one point more.

Bain had two birdies in his round, at the eighth and fourteenth holes. His playing partner Lachie Sutherland had an even better inward nine of nineteen points that earned him third place after count back.

Bob Robertson, Andrew Lannon and Sandy Stewart also scored 36 points.

Winter specialists Bryan Ronald and Davie Calder were next best on 35 points, one ahead of David Dunbar having his first competitive outing of the season.
