Summer League 15 - 22/23 July 09
Young Allyn wins with 43 points
There was general disappointment that Thurso Golf Club championship finals could not be played last Friday because of flooding but at least the Newsbeat Summer League competitors, for the most part, missed the rain and some pretty good scores were returned.
The week's best score went to Allyn Sutherland who had a great round for 43 points on Wednesday.
Young Allyn, who is assisting the greenkeeping staff at Thurso before going away to train as a greenkeeper, had a fine outward nine of 39 for 20 points before going into overdrive on the inward nine. He deviated from par only once, at the long sixteenth and amassed a further 23 points.
Ian Macphee propelled himself into the top ten of the League with a 40 point effort for second place, a point ahead of Steve Grogan who has just started playing competitive golf.
Another young player, Jordan Youngson was next best on 38 points.
Stephen Williamson had a superb two under par inward nine to earn first place on Thursday after he and Ronnie Dunnett both scored 40 points.
Jack Johnstone, Ali Simpson and Andrew Mackay all had 39 points.
Ronald Mackay also got himself into the top ten of the League after a 38 point round on Thursday.
