Summer League 17 - 05/06 August 09
Jim two off his course record

Thurso Golf Club's course record holder Jim Sangster was the headline maker in last week's Newsbeat Summer League as he had his second best round over his home course to win the Thursday session of the League.

Sangster shot a five under par 64 that contained eleven threes and six birdies. His solitary bogey came from an errant drive followed by a penalty drop at the thirteenth hole.

Was Sangster a runaway winner after his superb effort? Not a bit of it! Alan Simmonite and Bob Robertson were only a point adrift of Sangster's 42 point haul with Simmonite winning second place after a 21 point inward nine.

Ronnie Gray and Mark Mackay won sweep money for their 37 point returns but Jim Johnston and Alan Swanson didn't.

There was an emphatic winner the previous day when 20 points for each half gave Iain Graham a three point win over Allyn Sutherland.

Graeme Henderson was third with 36 points, one better than Keith Dreaves and Jason Simpson.

Graham's fine score got him into seventh place in the League and Henderson moved up a place to fifth. Otherwise there was little change. So, with five rounds remaining, Bryan Ronald still leads by six points from Nicky Doherty and Walter Rutherford with Jason Simpson in fourth place.
