Burness grabs penultimate round
The Wednesday players in the Newsbeat Summer League at Thurso Golf Club were the lucky ones last week as torrential rain caused the cancellation of the Thursday round, as well as Saturday's J&G Sutherland September Medal.
Charlie Burness had his best round in the League this season with a three over par 72 for 40 points. Burness was level par for the front nine and had three twos on his card, at the fifth, ninth and fourteenth holes.
Graeme McLeod, handicap champion at the Thurso Open, kept up the good work with a 39 point effort for second place, with 21 points in the first nine.
Rory Hadden also had 21 points for the front nine but he was kept out of the money by Walter Rutherford who was spurred on by a two at the ninth and came home in 20 points to beat Hadden on count back after both scored 37 points.
As a result of Wednesday's round, Rutherford improved his nine round aggregate by two points and is now second on his own, eight points behind leader Bryan Ronald who has 342 points and also improved his total by a point on Wednesday.
It will take the round of the year by any of the contenders to catch Ronald in tomorrow's final round but there could still be a lot of changes to the top ten with ten points separating second and tenth.
