Summer League 22 - 12 September 09
Ronald holds on for worthy win

Instead of the fireworks that might have been expected on the final day of the Newsbeat Summer League at Thurso Golf Club on Saturday, damp squib was more appropriate in dreich weather.

There was a healthy turn out of aspiring top ten finishers hoping to improve on their lowest scores but despite their best efforts the leading positions were unaffected by Saturday's round.

Hamish Boyd had an excellent two over par front nine for 22 points and held on to win the final round with 35 points.

Donald Sutherland, seeking to improve his overall sixth position, just failed to do so in taking second place with 34 points. Ally Simpson, in third place, also had 34 points to improve his total but failed to make the top ten.

Harvey Cowe (34) and Jason Simpson (33) picked up the rest of Saturday's sweep money.

And so, after 22 rounds, the Newsbeat Summer League winner was long time leader Bryan Ronald with a best nine round aggregate of 342 points, eight clear of runner up Walter Rutherford. This crowned a great season for Ronald who won the club championship in July and has been in consistent form all year.
