Summer League 5 - 13/14 May 09
Ian cruises this weeks round

Ian Macphee was the top performer in last week's rounds of the Newsbeat Summer League at Thurso Golf Club. He was an emphatic winner of the Wednesday session with 40 points, four clear of the rest of the field.

Macphee birdied the fourth and eighth holes on his way to a two over par outward nine and 21 Stableford points. There were to be no more birdies but steady play produced another 19 points.

Allyn Sutherland also scored 19 points on the inward nine to claim second place after countback.

The two Alis, Bell and Simpson finished third and fourth respectively after both returned 36 point totals.

Paul O'Rourke and Pat Valentine also scored 36 points but failed to get in the money.

Three players scored 37 points in the Thursday session with Alf Williamson prevailing on count back.

Once again 19 points on the back nine was the key to success as Stephen Fidler and Geordie Bain had to settle for second and third places after good front nines.

Bain's playing partner Lachie Sutherland was fourth with 36 points and Mark Parsonage fifth with the same total.
