Summer League 7 - 27/28 May 09
Boyd beats weather and rest to win

The weather was not particularly kind for the Wednesday session of the Newsbeat Summer League but it certainly didn't bother Iain Boyd as he finished six points clear of the field with 43 points.

After a single point at each of the opening two holes Boyd got down to business and reached the turn in 22 points, four of those from a birdie at the seventh. His inward nine was equally impressive with a six at the fifteenth causing his only dropped point.

In common with most of the other players Nicky Doherty found points hard to come by on the first nine as he struggled to get 16 of them but things got a lot better on the way in as he hit 36 shots for 21 points and second place.

Kevin Morris, Michael MacGregor and Walter Rutherford were all three points further back on 34.

Thursday was a good golfing day and overall scoring was better than the previous day.

George Munro and Alf Williamson both returned 41 point totals with Munro's 21 point inward nine earning him first place. With one birdie each, consistency was generally the name of the game for both players although Williamson did fall foul of the dreaded 17th hole.

Alan Swanson had the day's low round of gross 68, that included three birdies, for third place with 40 points.

Like Swanson, Gary Calder was level par to the turn but a couple of bogeys at the end of the round proved costly and he had to settle for fourth place on 38 points. Peter Sangster, Jordan Youngson and Jimmy Manson were a further point behind.
