Summer League 9 - 10/11 June 09
Bremner wins by 1 point

Conditions were vastly different for the two rounds of the Newsbeat Summer League at Thurso Golf Club last week with those who played on Wednesday the lucky ones.

Stephen Bremner, who had a hole in one a few weeks ago and did not win, didn't manage another hole in one last week but did win with a very good round on a day of excellent scoring that saw the Standard Scratch go down by a shot.

Bremner's front nine was all fours and fives for 19 points but he threw in a trio of threes in a back nine of 23 points and a winning total of 43 points, one better than a group of four players.

In the count back game it was Donald Sutherland who claimed second place after he too got 23 points on the inward nine after a level par performance.

Michael MacGregor, Ricky Eunson and Steve Osborne finished in that order to claim the rest of the sweep money.

Current League leader Bryan Ronald had yet another very impressive round of 68 for 40 points. Ronald's best eight round total is 15 points clear of second placed Walter Rutherford.

On a miserable Thursday Alan Simmonite and Peter Knight were the big two with their respective totals of 37 and 36 points head and shoulders above the rest of the field.

It was certainly nip and tuck between the regular playing partners as they both had 17 points going out before Simmonite's inward nine of 20 points prevailed.

Early starter Jim Johnston also had 20 points on the inward nine to claim third place on count back from Stuart Bell and Adrian Williams, all scoring 35 points.
