Morrison wins on countback both times
Both players showed real determination on Sunday in returning nett 66's. In contrast to the previous day it was Ronald who improved by two shots with birdies at the seventh and eighteenth holes whereas Morrison did not get any shots off despite being winner on the day after count back. He also became overall winner on count back with a better nett inward nine.
Edgar Wylie improved by two shots to snatch third place from Keith Dreaves.
Stuart Bell had a very creditable nett 67 for third place, beating Davie Irvine by a shot. However Irvine was highly delighted to hole a full seven iron for an eagle at the sixth hole.

Bryan places a final push
There was a nail biting finish to the Ulbster Arms Challenge Shield at Thurso Golf Club over the weekend. Only the extremely committed ventured out in dreadful conditions on Saturday.
Joint leader Bryan Ronald was the winner on the day, his nett 75 beating Jason Simpson into second place by four shots, but he failed to make any improvement to his eclectic score.
The other joint leader, Malcolm Morrison, didn't score at all the holes but crucially birdied the thirteenth and fourteenth holes to take a two shot lead into Sunday's final round.

Robertson cruises by 7 shots
Ronald is also leading in the Ulbster Arms Challenge Shield although he failed to improve his score in Sunday's fifth round.
This was won in tremendous fashion by Bob Robertson who followed up his gross 70 on Thursday with a one under par 68 on Sunday to beat Keith Dreaves and Charlie Burness by seven shots and move into fourth place in the Shield.
Robertson played strictly to par on the front nine and birdied the eleventh and thirteenth holes before dropping a shot on the long sixteenth.

McEwan doesn't miss out on this round
McEwan didn't need count back on Sunday as his nett 69 was two shots clear of George Munro, Eann McIntosh, Jack Johnstone and Bryan Ronald who finished in that order after count back.
Ronald had three more birdies at the weekend to improve his eclectic score to nett 60.5 and he now leads by 2.5 shots from Ali Bell with Keith Dreaves a further half shot away in third place.
The competition is only at the half way stage though so much is likely to change.

Allyn sneeks it on the last
Allyn Sutherland and Greg McEwan are doing a sterling job in assisting the permanent greens staff at Thurso this summer and perhaps used some local knowledge to emerge as winners of the latest rounds of the Ulbster Arms Challenge Shield.
Sutherland added a birdie at the eighteenth to two earlier ones for a fine nett 68 and claimed victory over Stuart Bell and Mick Ross on count back in Saturday's third round of the Shield.

Oggy-Ozzy-Ozzy by three
There was more spectacular scoring on Saturday in the second round of the Ulbster Arms Halkirk Challenge Shield, particularly by Steve Osborne who tested the patience of the Handicap Secretary with a nett 62 to win by three shots from Stephen Spargo and Lennie Murray.
Although Osborne had only one birdie, at the ninth, his steady play throughout the round paid dividends.
Spargo, who shared the day's low round of 71 with Alan Swanson, was two over par on the way out and level par on the way in. Murray too was very consistent with 38 shots for both nines.
Gordon Bailey and Mark Mackay grabbed the rest of the sweep money with nett 66's.
After two rounds of the competition the leader is none other than Bryan Ronald who has four birdies in an eclectic total of 65 and leads Gordon Morris, Osborne and Murray by two shots.

Eann secures the first round
Early starter Eann McIntosh posted a score that no one was able to match in the first round of the Ulbster Arms Halkirk Challenge Shield played in glorious conditions at Thurso Golf Club on Saturday.
The 19 handicap player had five pars and a birdie, that will stand him in good stead in the eclectic format, in a fine round of nett 64.
Stephen Osborne also had one birdie on his card in finishing second on count back after he and Peter Knight both scored nett 66. Knight would have been well pleased with his round that had nothing worse than a five in it.
Gordon Morris, out in only two over par, was alone in fourth place on nett 67, one ahead of Martin Beaumont with Ian Fraser and Malcolm Morrison a further shot back.
Bryan Ronald's 73 was the lowest gross round of the day.
