Mens Tournaments - Season 2009-2010
Winter Eclectic Final - 20 March 10
Wylie wins by two shots
Valentine also had his sights set on the Winter Eclectic title but only improved by a shot to nett 59 and had to settle for runner up spot behind winner Ed Wylie who parred the tenth hole to improve by one to nett 57 and a two shot winning margin.
Bryan Ronald, who was out injured for much of the winter, was third on nett 59.5, half a shot ahead of Gray with Dreaves and Henderson in the next two places.
Winter Eclectic 4 - 20 March 10
Wylie leads the way
There is a similar situation in the Winter Eclectic where Ed Wylie leads by two shots after improving by three shots on Saturday to a total of nett 58.
Valentine also improved by three shots to move to second position, two shots adrift of Wylie.
Bryan Ronald, who did not play on Saturday is next best on nett 61.5 with Trevor Henderson and Gray a further half shot away.
Winter Eclectic 3 - 28 November 09
Dreaves wins by three
Regular playing partners Keith Dreaves and Pat Valentine took the top two places in the third round of the Winter Eclectic at Thurso Golf Club on Saturday.
In common with most of the field, both players struggled against par on the front nine but fared much better on the way in.
Ten over par for the front nine, Dreaves was only five over for the back nine, including a birdie to conclude his round, for a winning nett 64.
Valentine, three over par for his inward nine, would have been particularly pleased with back to back birdies at the sixteenth and seventeenth holes on his way to a nett 67 and second place.
Gary Calder showed what could be done on the outward nine with a four over par total of 36 including a birdie three at the first.
Another four over par effort on the inward nine gave him the day's low round of 74 and a nett 68 for third place by a shot from Stuart Bell, Jack Johnstone and Trevor Henderson.
Ed Wylie has yet to make a complete return in the Eclectic but emerged as leader after Saturday's round with a nett 61, half a shot ahead of Bryan Ronald who did not play at the weekend.
Henderson retained third place with a three shot improvement and Valentine is now in fourth place after picking up six shots.
Winter Eclectic 2 - 07 November 09
Johnstone wins with massive improvement
Last week's excessive rainfall led to the postponement of the J&G Sutherland November Medal but it was decided to play the second round of the Winter Eclectic over the shorter winter layout instead.
As expected after only two rounds of this competition, there were some dramatic improvements to overall eclectic scores, particularly by Saturday's winner, Jack Johnstone, who improved by 16 shots after a fine nett 62.
After a good outward nine where he did well at the par three holes he kept his round together well until the final hole where he ran up a triple bogey seven.
None the less, he still managed to win by a shot from Trevor Henderson, Bryan Ronald and Stuart Bell who finished in that order after count back.
As a result of Saturday's efforts Ronald took ten shots off his eclectic total and now leads with nett 61.5, 2.5 shots clear of Johnstone with Henderson a further shot away.
Winter Eclectic 1 - 24 October 09
Burness beats par to win first round
Thurso Golf Club's hardy breed of winter players managed to fit in the first round of the Winter Eclectic on Saturday before the latest deluge began later in the afternoon.
The shorter winter layout was in operation and it stood up to the challenge well with only competition winner Charlie Burness beating the par of 66, with a nett 63.
Only nine birdies were recorded on Saturday and Burness had three of them, at the fourth, eighth and fifteenth holes.
Second placed Nicky Doherty had only one birdie, at the tenth hole, but was only one over par on the inward nine and finished with a nett 66.
Ali Simpson, Dave Lyall, Mikey Ross and Trevor Henderson were next best on nett 68, with captain Pat Valentine the only other player to break nett 70 with a nett 69.
