A&A Mackay Open - 04 July 10
The latest open competitions played at Thurso Golf Club were both significantly affected by the weather that kept entries down and scores up.
The A&A Mackay Open last weekend turned out to be a bit of a family affair as it was won by Colin Mackay, brother of sponsor Alan. He had a fine outward nine of 39 and kept things together on the way in for a nett 68 to win by a shot from Bryan Ronald.
On a day that saw the competition standard scratch score go up by a couple of shots, Ronald's best of the day gross 72, nett 69, was a fine effort.
Regular visitor from Reay, John O'Brien, had 38 shots both ways in his nett 70 that earned third place.
Trevor Henderson, Pat Valentine, Alistair Gunn (Reay) and Stephen Bremner were tied on nett 72 with fourth place going to Henderson on count back.
A mention too for Joy Fraser who won the Ladies prize in the recent A&A Mackay Open.
