Report:-
The semi finalists had to put up with a fair amount of rain on Wednesday making scoring that bit more difficult, particularly on the inward nine.
The first scratch semi final between Swanson and Ronald was a close affair with never more than a hole in it.
All square at the turn, Swanson went one up at the tenth but was hauled back to all square at the fourteenth. Ronald won the sixteenth with a good four after Swanson lipped out with his par putt.
Swanson then missed an excellent chance to draw level by three putting for a bogey at the seventeenth when two putts would have won the hole.
Both players were on the green at the eighteenth with Ronald just missing his birdie putt and Swanson holing his to take the match up the nineteenth.
Ronald then committed the cardinal sin of putting his drive out of bounds after Swanson was safely on the fairway and ultimately conceded the match.
The other semi final was a completely different affair with Sangster four up after five holes against four time champion Thorburn who was having problems with his short game.
Sangster was still well ahead at the turn but Thorburn was not going to give up without a fight. Birdies at the tenth and the thirteenth by Thorburn and a ball out of bounds by Sangster resulted in the match being all square after fifteen holes.
The sixteenth was halved in par but Thorburn failed to get up and down at the seventeenth to match Sangster's par and a half at the last got Sangster through to the final.
All of the other semi finals resulted in comfortable wins. With Keith Dreaveas and Walter Rutherford making the handicap final with wins over Bell and McEwan respectively and Pat Valentine and WJ doing like wise over Jack and Morrison in the senior championship.
