Club Championships Round 2 & May Medal - 29 May 10
There was some excellent scoring in the J&G Sutherland May Medal at Thurso Golf Club on Saturday when the scores also counted for qualification for the club championship.
Stuart Donn had an interesting card. Playing off a 14 handicap, Donn was only two over par at the turn after losing three shots to par at the short fifth hole. This was not to be his only triple bogey as he had another at the long sixteenth hole. Such was the quality of the rest of his play however, that he went on to return a winning nett 63.
Greg McEwan also had a triple bogey on his card, at the eleventh hole but recovered well and finished with a birdie three for a nett 64 and second place.
Count back was needed to sort out third place and it went to Graeme McLeod who edged out Doug McCowan after both returned nett 65's. Keith Dreaves and Malcolm Morrison were a shot further back.
The day's low round belonged to Jim Sangster who only had two variations from the card, a birdie at the eighth and a bogey at the twelfth, in a level par 69.
Sangster's round earned him a share of the leading qualifier position with Bryan Ronald.
With the final qualifying round to be played in two weeks time they lead by one from Doug Thorburn and by three from Peter Sangster. Those four are some way in front of the next group so there is still plenty to play for.
