Club Championships Round 3 & June Medal - 19 June 10

Michael MacGregor made an early start in the J&G Sutherland June Medal at Thurso Golf Club on Saturday and it turned out to be a wise choice as he won the Medal with a fine nett 67 in distinctly 'chilly for June' conditions.

MacGregor, playing off a 10 handicap, was four over par for both nines and didn't have a single birdie on his card.

Willie 'WJ' Shearer had a modest front nine but steadied the ship on the way in to beat Charlie Ross for second place on count back after both returned nett 68's.

Mark Mackay, Davie Calder, Bryan Ronald, David Dunbar and Alan Swanson all returned nett 69's with Swanson sharing the day's low round of 71 with Jim Sangster.

After Saturday's round, Ronald, the current Club Champion, emerged as leading qualifier for this year's championship. Keith Dreaves, a finalist last year, was leading handicap qualifier.

The championship quarter finals take place in just over two weeks.
