Senior Tournaments - Season 2010-2011

EGGS Summer Stableford 13 - 29 June 10

The seniors had another glorious golfing day for the final round of the EGGS Summer Stableford.

Sandy Wright kept up his recent run of good form and claimed first place on Tuesday with 39 points. Wright had two birdies in his round and a fine 21 point inward nine.

Jim Johnston had 19 points for both nines for second place with Ron Ritchie, David Warren and Jim Telfer two points further back.

Telfer's was a significant round as he increased his best five round total to 185 to overhaul competition leader Ronald Mackay and claim the Wallace trophy.

Mackay was runner-up on 183, four clear of Sandy Reid. Pat Valentine(176) and Donald Jack and Doug McCowan, both 175, are also likely to receive a small adjustment to their handicaps before the EGGS Summer Eclectic starts on Tuesday.

EGGS Summer Stableford 12 - 22 June 10

The seniors enjoyed wonderful warm and calm conditions for their competition on Tuesday.

There was scoring to match in the penultimate round of the EGGS Summer Stableford with Ronald Mackay's 40 point effort beating Jim Telfer by a point.

Those two have emerged as front runners in the competition with Mackay having a best five round total of 183 points, one ahead of his rival.

Gordon Bailey, Bob Black, Doug McCowan and Billy Hossack all had 37 points on Tuesday.

EGGS Summer Stableford 11 - 15 June 10

The senior members had a glorious day for Round 11 of the EGGS Summer Stableford on Tuesday but scoring failed to match the conditions as only two players beat the 36 point mark, and then only by a shot.

Club Secretary Bob Black had an excellent 21 point inward nine to claim victory over Peter Knapp. Knapp was even denied a full share of the 'twos pot' as his fine birdie at the twelfth was matched by a Sandy Wright birdie at the fifth.

Billy Hossack and Jim Johnston were next best with 35 points, one more than Ronald Mackay. Mackay's score was significant however as it improved his best five round score by five points and he now leads the competition by a point from Sandy Reid with two rounds remaining.

EGGS Summer Stableford 10 - 08 June 10

Players in the tenth round of the EGGS Summer Stableford had to contend with damp conditions on Tuesday and 36 points was the best score, returned by Pat Valentine, and playing partners Ronald Mackay and Alan Simmonite.

Valentine struggled at the first two of the par threes on the way out but birdied the third one to get out in 16 points. That appeared to settle him and he only dropped one point on the way in for 20 points that earned victory.

Mackay earned second place with 19 points on the way home. Simmonite, on the other hand, got his 19 points on the way out.

With three rounds remaining Sandy Reid, with a best five round total of 176 points, leads by one from Jim Telfer and by three from Valentine who moved into third place on Tuesday Mackay is a further point back.

EGGS Summer Stableford 9 - 01 June 10

Ian Manson who has missed a few games through injury in recent weeks showed that recovery is complete with a fine 39 point effort that won first place in Round 9 of the EGGS Summer Stableford.

At the half way stage he was two points behind playing partner Donald Jack but romped home in 21 points to beat Jack by a point.

Doug McCowan continued his fine form from the weekend with 37 points for third place. Pat Valentine and Jim Telfer were a point further back.

With four rounds remaining, Telfer has moved to within a shot of current leader Sandy Reid. Those two are well ahead of Valentine and Jim Buchan in third place.

EGGS Summer Stableford 8 - 25 May 10

Dar Sutherland became the latest winner of a round of the EGGS Summer Stableford beating his nearest challengers by a couple of points after scoring 38 points, 20 of those on the inward nine.

Jim Buchan, Ronald Mackay and Jim Telfer all scored 19 points on the way out and 17 on the way in on their way to 36 points.

EGGS Summer Stableford 7 - 18 May 10

After losing last week's game because of snow the seniors enjoyed wonderful warm and calm conditions on Tuesday for Round 7 of the Summer Stableford.

Jim Telfer made a strong bid for his first EGGS win with 21 points on his inward nine for a fine total of 38 points but was thwarted by Dave Lyall who made his 21 points on the way out and added 19 more for a winning total of 40 points.

Jim Buchan was third with 36 points, two ahead of Bob Black and Sandy Wright.

EGGS Summer Stableford 6 - 11 May 10

'Snow stopped play on 11 May' was the seniors wail this week as they lost yet another Tuesday competition.

EGGS Summer Stableford 5 - 04 May 10

The seniors and ladies are not having the best of luck with the weather on Tuesdays.

After Round 4 of the EGGS Summer Stableford went uncontested last week half a dozen enthusiasts braved this week's wet conditions with Pat Valentine victorious after a 34 point effort with Sandy Reid next best on 31 points.

EGGS Summer Stableford 4 - 27 April 10

Cancelled.

EGGS Summer Stableford 3 - 20 April 10

There was a similar story on Tuesday when Donald Jack was level par for the front nine but six over par on the way in for a gross 75. None the less, this was still a winning performance as it gained 37 points to beat Ronald Mackay by a point.

Mackay birdied the third in an outward total of 19 points and a further 17 points on the way home.

Bob Robertson and Pat Valentine both had a brace of birdies in their 35 point rounds.

EGGS Summer Stableford 2 - 13 April 10

Reid, having had his handicap cut by a couple of shots, was also going well in Tuesday's second round with 20 points on the way out but faltered at the closing two holes to allow Gary Henderson to claim first place on 36 points. Reid shared second place with Ian Fraser and Alan Simmonite.

EGGS Summer Stableford 1 - 06 April 10

Sandy Reid is certainly the form man in EGGS competitions. Having won the final round of the Winter Eclectic by five points, he was in a totally different class from the rest of the field in the first round of the Summer Stableford as he went round in gross 77 for a massive 44 point total, nine points clear of second placed Ronald Mackay with Jim Hawthorn and Dave Lyall a further point away.
