Gala Open sponsored by We Frame It - 25 July 10
Another Maclean claimed the Gala Trophy, sponsored by We Frame It, on Sunday.
Calum Maclean was born and brought up in Thurso and taught as a junior at Thurso Golf Club before moving to the Black Isle and playing out of the Fortrose and Rosemarkie club. He is clearly a good learner as he lost a good few balls on Saturday before bouncing back with an eleven shot improvement on Sunday to record a nett 61 to beat the winner of the previous day, Jordan Youngson, by three shots.
Youngson had the added satisfaction of winning the trophy for the best nett aggregate over the two days but will now have to cope with a handicap of 12.
Alf Williamson with a nett 67 finished in second place behind Youngson in the higher handicap category with Alan Kennedy, nett 69, and Willie WJ Shearer, nett 70, in third and fourth places.
The lower handicap category was won by the other Shearer, William, with a nett 69, one ahead of Reay's Dav Mackay, Keith Dreaves, Jim McLeod and George Munro who finished in that order after all recorded nett 70's.
Alan Swanson also needed count back to win the scratch award from Ronald Matheson after both shot 75.
Alison Campbell was the winner of the ladies prize with a nett 76.
