Mens Tournaments - Season 2010-2011

Bert Loomes Memorial - 05 June 10

There was a good entry for the Bert Loomes Memorial on Saturday and the fine weather prompted some good scoring with ten players under nett par.

Stephen Lowe had a decent score in the Newsbeat Summer League last week but it would have been a lot better had he not failed to score on three holes.

He cut out the errors on Saturday though and came through to win, courtesy of a fine inward nine that relegated Andrew Lannon and David Dunbar into second and third places respectively after all had carded nett 66's.

Lowe played to his 18 handicap on the outward nine but put in a strong finish for an inward 40.

Lannon had to settle for second place for the second time in three days after coming close in the League on Wednesday. His round was very similar to the winner's with a four shot improvement on the way in and he was unlucky to lose over the last six holes.

Dunbar has not been playing too much golf so far this season but shared the low round of the day with Alan Swanson, both scoring gross 72. He had three birdies, at the seventh, thirteenth and fifteenth holes.

Michael MacGregor was only two over par at the turn but slipped up at the twelfth and thirteenth holes to allow Trevor Henderson, who had 40 for both nines, to claim fourth place after both returned nett 67.

Willie 'WJ' Shearer had also been hoping for better after a good front nine but had problems at the tenth and eleventh holes and did well to get a nett 67 as well.
