J&G Sutherland - April Medal - 24 April 10
There was a good entry for the first J&G Sutherland Summer Medal at Thurso Golf Club on Saturday and, for a change, players were neither soaked nor blown away!
Andrew Main, a 16 handicap player, played very consistently on Saturday with a double bogey six at the thirteenth his only real blemish. He recovered from that in fine style though and a par, par finish got him to nett 67 to win the medal by a shot from Ronnie Gray.
Gray had birdies at the third and thirteenth in a fine gross 77 but was four over for the last three holes for a nett 68 and second place.
Stuart Donn, in third place, had a similar sort of round to Gray, both recording sevens at the par five seventh and slipping up near the end, Donn being five over par for the closing three holes in his nett 69.
There are worse starts than an eight at the first, but not many! and Neil Jackson did very well to recover from such a start to claim fourth place on nett 70 after count back with Charlie Burness, Malcolm Morrison and Keith Dreaves.
Burness and Morrison both had steady sub 80 rounds whereas Dreaves had a very good front nine only to let it slip on the back nine.
The same could be said of Roddy Harper who had the day's low round of gross 75. Harper's only deviation from par on the front nine was a bogey at the seventh hole but he had five more bogeys on the back nine.
