Blargoans - September Medal - 04 September 10

Saturday's September Medal at Thurso Golf Club was the first to be sponsored by Dunnet based company, Blargoans, who have taken over the sponsorship role from Halkirk based firm J&G Sutherland.

The Halkirk connection was kept alive on Saturday by Jim McLeod, who now lives in the area, as he turned in a fine performance to win the Medal with a nett 68. Mcleod, in common with the rest of the field, found the windy conditions a real challenge as he got to the turn in 41 shots, so using up six shots from his handicap of ten. He then proceeded to play some superb golf and only a missed, relatively short, putt at the final hole stopped him being level fours for the back nine. He also had the satisfaction of sharing the day's low gross round of 78 with Nicky Doherty.

Alf Williamson played bogey golf on the outward nine, apart from a par at the eighth. His inward nine was less even, with more pars and double bogeys, but the outcome was a well earned nett 69 for second place by a shot from Stephen Bremner. Bremner had the same outward nine as Williamson and was steadiness itself on the way in.

Stuart Bell survived a couple of eights to claim fourth place on count back from Doherty after both returned nett 71's.
