Reid & Fraser Open - 16 May 10

Angus Cameron and Bryan Ronald made an early start to the Reid and Fraser Open at Thurso Golf Club on Sunday. Teeing off at 8am they went on to claim the top two places in the event.
Thurso Club Champion Ronald was one over par at the turn with a solitary birdie at the sixth hole but two more at the thirteenth and fourteenth helped him home in one under par so he had the day's best gross of 69 and nett of 66. Ronald received the best scratch award with Jim Sangster second in that category with a 73.
Cameron had no birdies in his round but showed great consistency with 39 shots for each nine for a nett 67 that won first place in the low handicap category.
Wick's Forbes Sinclair won the count back battle for second place with Joe Wilson (Reay) after both returned nett 68's. Sinclair added birdies at the fourteenth and fifteenth to an earlier one at the third to get home in 38 shots. Wilson had good front nine of 39 but a couple of double bogeys on the way in proved to be his downfall.
Caithness Rugby Club stalwart Blair McIntosh showed that he can cut it at the golf as well as a run of three birdies from the eighth hole helped him to a winning nett 67 in the higher handicap category.
Alf Williamson had 42 shots for each nine on his way to a nett 68 and second place.
Steven Lowe edged out Kevin Morris for third place on count back, both scoring nett 69's.
A couple of, somewhat different, spectacular events were noted from Sunday.
Reay's Murray McGlasson holed his second shot for an eagle two at the sixth and a former Thurso Club Champion played his third shot at the tenth from fairly adjacent to the eleventh green following a ricochet from one of Billy Sutherland's splendid bridges.
