After many year's of trying Thurso's seniors got the better of their Reay counterparts in a very enjoyable match played in glorious conditions on Tuesday and now hold the David Spargo trophy.
Senior Open (Thurso) - 07 July 10
In demanding windy conditions Ronnie Gray shot an excellent gross 74 for 40 Stableford points to win last Wednesday's Senior Open sponsored for the first time by Colin Chessor Limited.
Consistency was the name of the game for the winner as his round had no birdies but nothing worse than a bogey.
Davie Irvine turned in a great second nine of 21 points to claim second place on count back from Bob Robertson after both scored 37 points. Robertson had birdies at the third and eighth holes in a level par outward nine.
Jim Buchan claimed fourth place with 35 points, one ahead of Ali Simpson.
Lachlan Ross (Durness) had the best score by a visitor with 33 points, one better than club mate Gerald Klein.
Reay's Ian Ritchie had 31 points as did sponsor Colin Chessor making a rare golfing appearance.
Seniors Inter-Town Matches (v Wick & Reay) - 08 June 10
Thurso's seniors have not enjoyed much success in the away legs of the inter-club matches having been thrashed 5-1 by Wick a couple of weeks ago and losing to Reay 4-3 last week.
Jim Hawthorn and Jim Telfer are the only Thurso pair to have won with success in both matches and Donald Jack won some well earned admiration at Reay by reducing the par five fourth and fourteenth holes to seven shots with a birdie at the fourth and an eagle at the fourteenth.
